Pria Diagnostics and thinXXS announce collaboration for high-performance microstructure systems

Pria Diagnostics and thinXXS Microtechnology AG today announced a development collaboration for novel microstructures to be used in Pria’s NanoFL™ microfluorimeter system.  The NanoFL™ system is a handheld diagnostic system capable of detecting picomolar levels of fluorescence at a cost appropriate for point-of-care or over-the counter markets.  The collaboration will focus on the integration of microfluidics with polymer optics and biological interaction.  Terms were not disclosed.

“Pria’s goal is to bring complex laboratory diagnostics out of the clinical laboratory.  thinXXS immediately understood that this means not only making a sophisticated diagnostic system, but also components that are inexpensive to manufacture and robust enough to survive any environment,” said Douglas Erwin, Chief Executive Officer for Pria.  “The thinXXS design team has demonstrated leadership in simplifying complicated microfluidic problems.  We believe the two companies’ extensive experience in designing plastic microfluidics and optics make us a strong fit for each other.”

“Pria´s NanoFL™ mcirofluorimeter system is a perfect example for how small and effective a diagnostic lab can get using the potentials of microfluidics. We are glad to bring our expertise in the design, development, and manufacturing of microfluidic devices to the project,” said Hans-Joachim Hartmann, Spokesman of the Executive Board for thinXXS. “The comprehensive development and the close cooperation with Pria supports the goal to further expand our services in the United States.”

Pria is developing diagnostic systems for the precise detection of medical diseases and conditions.  Its products are intended for conditions that require immediate diagnosis and monitoring or for locations where laboratory systems are not available.

About Pria Diagnostics
Pria Diagnostics develops advanced diagnostic systems based on its portable NanoFL™ platform.  NanoFL™ is a miniaturized fluorescence system for highly specific diagnostic analysis of antigens at the point-of-use. The system was designed to be used in environments where large, delicate or expensive diagnostic equipment would not be suitable, but a laboratory level of sensitivity is still required.
